Your Blood Pressure Medication May be Promoting High Blood Pressure & Heart Disease

Current statistics state that as many as 65 million Americans have high blood pressure (hypertension). The current main stay for treating hypertension is the use of medications. The most common types of medications used include diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and beta blockers. Though these medications can be helpful in the reduction of blood pressure, their long term use can cause a disruption of the vitamin and mineral balance in the body. Research is now showing that a disruption of certain vitamins and minerals can lead to elevations in blood pressure or an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Below is a list of vitamins and minerals which have been shown to be depleted by blood pressure lowering medications and their potential effects of deficiency:

Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium: Recent research reveals that low levels of calcium, magnesium, and potassium can lead to elevations in blood pressure. In addition, magnesium deficiency is a contributing factor to elevations in cholesterol.

Zinc:

Zinc deficiencies have been shown to lower an individual?s antioxidant status. Low antioxidant levels have been associated with a higher risk for cardiovascular disease.

Coenzyme Q10:

Low levels of coenzyme Q10 have been linked to both high blood pressure as well as congestive heart failure. In addition, CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant.

Folate & Vitamin B6:

These essential B-vitamins reduce the risk of heart disease by converting the toxic chemical homocysteine into harmless byproducts. Elevated homocysteine levels in the blood are as great a risk factor for heart disease as having high cholesterol.

Vitamin B1:

A deficiency of vitamin B1 can cause congestive heart failure as well as muscle soreness, and exercise intolerance. Exercise intolerance could potentially inhibit a person's ability to exercise. This in turn could lead to sedentary activity. Lack of adequate exercise is also a risk factor for heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is vital to healthy collagen production (blood vessel linings). Vitamin C deficiency has been related to elevated cholesterol levels and is necessary to maintain adrenal function through the production of hormones such as corticosteroid and aldosterone.

In summary, there are a number of published scientific studies that illustrate the effects of blood pressure lowering medications on nutritional status in humans. Based on these studies and the functions of the effected nutrients in the body we can logically conclude that taking blood pressure medications over long periods of time may actually increase the risk for heart disease, or at the very least, reduce the benefit from the medication. Because supplementation with these nutrients is safe and cost effective, it would seem prudent for physicians to monitor these nutrient levels with appropriate lab tests and to administer appropriate doses of these vitamins and minerals when deficiencies are identified.

Celebrity Hairstyle Secrets How You Can Look Like the Stars

You are probably wondering how celebrities like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton & Reese Witherspoon look so gorgeous all the time?

How does their hairstyles always look so perfect and such dazzling colors?

Well, one of the big celebrity secrets is hair color. Just look at the hair colour of Angelina Jolie , Jennifer Aniston and Debra Messing to see what I mean.

Dazzling Color

A really effective way to change your hair is the colour. The richer and deeper the colour, the healthier you will look and the more attractive you will appear, it?s a well acknowledged fact.

So if you haven?t already booked an appointment at your local salon to have a colour analysis, or follow these steps to the perfect celebrity look-a-like hair colour:

Firstly look at your natural hair colour; does it seem lifeless and dull? Take a long look at your hair in the mirror and look at your friends and work colleagues- also don?t forget to ask your hair stylist for advice.

The next step is to determine your own hair colour if you don?t already know this. A good tip to remember is that men can often be the best judge of hair colour, because they can sometimes be more objective.

Once you have worked out what your hair colour is, try thinking of shades that are really rich in your mind but sticking to your own colour palette.

For example, if your hair is a dark blonde colour, but also has some dark brown and red strands in there, colours that would work for you would be reds and browns.

Another good example is Keira Knightley, she looks at her best with chestnut-coloured hair because this is closest to her natural colour.

Consider trying colours that are slightly darker than your normal shade, and always try colours that are redder than your normal shade.

Red hair is really popular at the moment, with stars like Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts endorsing it.

If you want to dye your hair yourself, try some wash-in wash-out formulas before you commit to a permanent colour. This way you can be sure of the colour and whether it suits you. The usual recommendation is just to go one shade darker each time.

Also, if you just want to look good for one special evening you can then use one of these formulas and not permanently change your colour, but still look astounding.

Perfect Nutrition = Perfect Hair

You may have heard this many times before, but a healthy diet is really important if you want to have great hair.

The stars that look the best are the ones that eat the right foods and focus on a good diet. Gwyneth Paltrow and Heidi Klum are great examples and look great without starving themselves or resorting to strange diets.

There are a few key things that you need to make sure you get enough of that will help your hair look at its best.

The first is to drink plenty of water, this gives the hair its shine and without enough it can leave your hair lank and frizzy. The usual recommendation is eight glasses a day, but don?t stick rigidly to this, just drink as much as you can.

Secondly, protein is really important to your hair as this is what it?s made of, so be sure to eat enough dairy and meat products.

Minerals like iron, zinc and copper are also really important.

The iron helps deliver oxygen to your hair to keep it alive and fresh looking, so eat plenty of red meat and dark green veggies.

Zinc is effective in keeping the hair strong, and prevents the hair falling out; it can be found in seafood and meat.

Copper is really important in maintaining the colour of your hair, and enough of this will really give your hair colour a boost, so make sure you eat enough shellfish, seeds and fresh vegetables.

Vitamins are also effective in maintaining a good scalp and a great overall condition of your hair, especially vitamins A, B and C. These can be found in fruits and vegetables.

A great celebrity secret is the sweet potato, which is full of vitamins A and B and other great nutrients which will give your hair great life and body.

It's Simple!

Look after your health and people will actually comment on the fact that you are glowing with health. Get your hair color right and you can change the look of your hair overnight - and look stunning into the bargain!

You don't have to spend a fortune to understand the beauty & hair regimes of the celebrities - these simple tips can help you copy the hairstyle of your favorite celebrity!

After WLS: Surgical Thigh Lift

Our LivingAfterWLS frequent contributor and my good friend Kim Stover underwent a surgical thigh lift yesterday. She is home today recovering nicely and has found a way to use the computer laying down. For the next two weeks she must lay down or stand, she cannot be in a sitting position. I look forward to update from her soon.

Though not often talked about a thigh lift is a common procedure following massive weight loss. For women it is biologically naturally to carry much fat in the thighs so when weight is lost excessive loose skin remains.

Also called a leg lift, the reconstructive surgery removes the loose, hanging skin in the thigh and buttocks. The procedure is intended to tighten and firm these areas, improving overall body contour. The 2-4 hour surgery removes lax skin and fat and places the scars in locations that can be hidden within the bikini line.

Commonly during a leg lift, an incision is made in the upper inner thighs (possibly into the lower inner thigh), and the excess skin and fat is lifted at the surgeon?s discretion. He or she will determine how much can safely be removed. Once the excess is removed, the remaining skin is closed with sutures that can be removed in about a week. The type of incision and a patient?s resulting scar will be determined by the location and amount of excess skin and fat. It may be limited to the upper groin crease or possibly extend to the knee area if this region requires treatment.

Like any surgical procedure there are risks and benefits that will be discussed at your consultation. Patients generally return to work two weeks after surgery and can resume strenuous activity within 4 to 6 weeks upon the surgeon?s approval.

Risks of a surgical thigh lift include scarring, wound healing problems, infection, blood or fluid collection, loss of sensation, asymmetry, wrinkling of skin, lumpiness, areas of depression. Nerve damage may cause weakness in foot or leg. Possibility of permanent discoloration.

In most cases results are long-lasting, but subject to weight fluctuation. Patients should maintain a steady weight following a thigh lift or any cosmetic contouring surgery.

Water The Magical Drink

Glowing skin comes free of charge to you. Our simple water does it effectively. The effect of water is immediate, say overnight. Your skin not only glows but you also feel a lot better after having a glass of water. Your wrinkles will seem less pronounced and your body will work most effectively as the waste and toxins are washed away. This is what our free of cost renewable source of energy does to us.

Tip: Drink a glass or two of water if you are watching your diet. Dehydration triggers false feelings of hunger so its easy to confuse thirst with hunger.

Natural spring water, whether its fizzy or still, is full of natural minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium, which are so important for our growth and healthy skin, along with iodine copper and iron .Fizzy water is believed to be absorbed much quicker in body and is thought by some beauticians to aggravate cellulite.

Tip: People who drink a lot of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and aerated drinks tend to have tired-looking skin and have greasy skin and spots. This is because these drinks contain caffeine which prevents your body from making efficient use of minerals and vitamins.Try not to drink more than 3 cups of tea or coffee a day.

Alcohol and Smoking also effect the skin in great great way.Keep their intake low. Excessive intake of alcohol can lead to split veins. Smoking which has Nicotine doesn't help you keep healthy skin too. Try Giving up Smoking. So, I would advise you to increase your water intake. One of the best way is to start a day with a glass or two of water. These initial glasses are important as you are reversing any mind dehydration that may have occurred overnight. It is always advisable to have water empty stomach as it avoid unnecessary dilution of digestive juices. So half hour before your meal, do have water. 30 Mintue Fitness Centers: Is Your Gym or 30 Minute 'Fad' Fitness Center Working for You?

Consider these...

- Are your physical capabilities tested prior to beginning?

- Can you find a Fitness professional or center that can carry out these necessities?

- Examine a facility?s staff (Certified, degreed, past experience relevant to YOUR needs), equipment (Maintained, rusting, broken, many ?out of order? signs), maintenance and upkeep (Bathroom cleanliness, wet spots, smell, garbage, etc.)

- Are they trying to ?sell you???

- Does there seem to be ?young? kids servicing your wellness concerns?

When Beginning a program:

- Get a thorough fitness evaluation that assesses your cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, body composition (Fat, Muscle)and a medical health history outline that stratafies your risk for diseases

- Have a Fitness Professional combine your unique medical background and current level of fitness that designs you a powerfully individualized program. (Make sure you have contact with a fitness professional that knows your limitations, medically and physically!)

- Work with and consult a Fitness Professional with Nationally Recognized Certifications (American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Association are a few and the most respected)

- Sensible, Specific, Basic Exercises, ?If it won?t help you in everyday life, it ain?t for you!?

- The proper individualized nutrition program based upon your goals, likes and dislikes. Not a ?fad diet?, ?one size fits all? diet, or ?magic? diet. Consult a nutritionist or certified dietician.

What are Your Nail Fungus Treatment Options?

If you?ve got a fungal nail infection, you?ll no doubt be searching for a nail fungus treatment. Among your options, you will find prescription drugs, over the counter medications, and various natural or home remedies. Whatever you choose, resign yourself to a long period of treatment ? some of these remedies take quite a long time to work, if they work at all.

Before you buy, however, make sure that you really need a nail fungus treatment: abnormal nails can have other causes, such as bruising, bacterial growth, or psoriasis. A nail that is infected with fungus is typically thickened, and becomes yellow or brown. It may be crumbly, and it may lift away from the nail bed (the soft tender tissue under the nail). A proper diagnosis is important and can save you money, so see your physician.

Fungal infections usually appear in the toenails first, but can spread to the fingernails later, so unless you have been putting off treatment for a while, it?s likely to be a toenail fungus treatment that you need. First, you should learn how to make conditions inhospitable for the fungus, to hasten its departure and discourage it from returning after the treatment is finished. Fungi flourish on dead tissue ? dead skin cells and the keratin in nails ? and will settle in and cause fungal nail infections when conditions are moist. So keep your feet clean and dry. Towel your feet carefully after bathing, making sure you dry between your toes. You can even use a hair dryer to make sure your feet are completely dry.

Next, you must choose between prescription drugs, over-the-counter treatments, and home remedies for nail fungus. The most commonly prescribed antifungal drugs for toe nail fungus treatment are terbinafine (Lamisil), itraconazole (Sporanox), and fluconazole (Diflucan). These oral medications are the most effective drugs because they attack the fungus from within, but they are expensive and all of them come with the possibility of side effects. There is a topical nail fungus treatment, a nail lacquer called ciclopirox (Penlac), which can only be used if the infection is not too advanced.

Over the counter nail fungus treatment usually consists of oils, creams or lotions that are applied topically to the infected nail. Because nails are very thick and resistant to the penetration of these substances, these treatments do not tend to work very well, especially as toenail fungus treatment ? they simply do not reach the fungus where it is growing under the nail.

Home remedies for toenail fungus treatment tend to have the same disadvantages as the over the counter treatments but some people swear by them. Topical home remedies will probably work best if the nail is thin and soft, or if the nail has been soaked to soften it, and possibly filed down. Popular home remedies include vinegar, Vicks Vaporub, Tee Tree Oil, DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide), PineSol, and oregano oil. There is even an exotic acidophilius beer soak toenail fungus treatment in which acidophilus bacteria are added to a mixture of dark beer and vinegar, and the feet are soaked for 30 minutes daily for at least a month. Some people also recommend a natural remedy imported from the Czech Republic: Saprox Natural Antifungal Treatment.

One of the most promising new nail fungus treatments is a product called Leucatin, which is an internal and topical solution that can effectively destroy nail fungus and prevent it from reoccurring by naturally boosting your body's anti-inflammatory and anti-infection abilities.

Although people will see different results from different toenail fungus treatments, you are bound to find one that works for you. Talk to your doctor to see what he or she recommends. And if nothing works, you may have to choose the most extreme nail fungus treatment of all ? surgical removal of the nail and infected tissue. Ouch.

David Bloom is an avid health enthusiast and a regular contributor to a variety of health websites. He is the author of Nail Fungus Treatment, a blog dedicated to the treatment of fingernail and toenail fungus.

Fat Burning Workout

To succeed with an aerobic fat burning workout or cardiovascular exercise fitness program, you need to pay attention to the following issues

?The frequency at which you perform the workout

?The intensity of your workout

?your motivation for exercising

?the duration of the exercise

First learn the basics, then perform the program. If you follow the guidelines below along with your exercise you will succeed.

Frequency

The keys to weight loss and fitness are

?decent eating habits

?aerobic exercise three to five times a week

To maintain your present body condition, you should exercise at least twice a week.

Intensity

The level of exertion should exceed mild demands but at the same time avoiding breathlessness and fatigue. Use the pulse rate or heart rate as a guide to determine the intensity of your training level. This can easily be done with a heart rate monitor. To make your cardiovascular workout effective, your heart rate must be maintained at a level between 70% and 85% of the maximum heart rate. This is also known as the target training zone.

Set up your workout intensity so that your heart rate is kept near the low end of the target training zone (approximately 70%). For each month that passes, you should gradually increase the heart rate until it reaches the high end of the rating zone. As your condition improves, a greater workload will be required in order to raise the heart rate to the training zone. You should stop your exercise immediately and obtain medical assistance if fatigue or breathing becomes excessive during a training session.

Motivation

To be able to perform an effective aerobic training program, you'll need to stay motivated. Regular and consistent exercising is the key to success. Therefore plan the workout to a regular time and place. Also record your performance and compare it to your plan.

Duration

Each workout should be structured into three main parts;

1.warm up

2.the training zone exercise

3.cool down.

It is important to prepare your body for an intensive exercise. Five to ten minutes of stretching can will do as a good warm up. Start your zone exercise with low intensity then increase it gradually the training zone for a period of fifteen to thirty minutes. Cool down with five to ten minutes of stretching or light workout.

How to Prevent Obesity

Why for example are we faced with an obesity epidemic in children in the first place? The answer lies in the fact that our children?s lifestyles and habits have changed dramatically in recent years. This is the age when the great outdoors has been abandoned in favor of video games where children will instead sit indoors for hours on end peering at some screen. So an important part of the answer to obesity is the need to cultivate weight gain prevention habits amongst our children. More exercises, physical pastime and more outdoor activities will therefore help a great deal in fighting off obesity in children.

Then we need to appreciate the fact that genes also play a major role in the obesity problem. Obese parents are therefore much more likely to have obese children. It goes beyond genes because obese parents are also much more likely to pass down their poor habits, which promote and cause obesity, to their children.

Still the biggest cause of obesity has to be overeating. We all enjoy good food and that is the reason why diets are unlikely to work over the long run. A key point to remember here is the fact that it takes almost 20 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that it has had enough. What this means is the most powerful weight control tip is to reduce the speed of eating. Eating slowly will help children tremendously to know when to stop and is a great way to control obesity.

The diet also matters. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables and whole-grains are very important in the fight against obesity in children.

Andrew McNaught runs the website: http://www.obesity-info-online.com which aims to educate people about the obesity issue in our world today and the ways in which we can reduce the problem.

Aerobic Workout

Aerobics are great, even thought the aerobics craze seem to have passed and that today is very different to what has swept the world of its feel and got it into working out the aerobics way, the current times offer the exerciser an abundance of tools and information about aerobics that has never before existed.

This kind of exercise was very fashionable some years ago, at one time you could find many of your friends and family in you local gym doing aerobics, but after this health workout fashion changed into many different streams of physical exercise, like the oriental disciplines and many diverse international workouts.

But aerobics didn?t go away, with time this has become on of the most researched and developed forms of losing weight and getting fit again, many different machines have been invented and researched, and many experts have been working in the field of aerobics.

When you start doing aerobics you should probably think about what kind of aerobic clothing you want to buy, since they have a lot influence on the quality of you exercise, and will probably also be a factor of how you feel, you will need to talk to your trainer or research online before you make decisions because a lot of these clothes do not come cheap and you may want to buy yourself more then one suit for your workout, so you wouldn?t have to do the laundry every day or so, this clothes will need to be washed once you had a good workout.

There are great advantages of aerobics exercise, first it is a special and very wide way to work out and keep your body in good shape, lose weight and maintain a regular workout schedule, but there are many other advantages to aerobics exercise some of them very surprising. A lot of people meet and make friends in the gym, some decide to start working out together and push each other to do better, stronger and faster, a partner is always a good way to improve and get further than what one would do by himself. A second benefit from working out together is that you can actually make friends, sometimes just work out friends and some time even more than that.

Working out and doing aerobics will also effect you mood, improve many aspects of you body and spirit and make you stronger not only physically. The effect of working out is that you body will release a lot of positive things into your blood, making you happier and stronger, this alone can make a huge change in anyone?s personality, and the good news is that if you never worked out you will feel this significant change.

Even you are not convinced I encourage you to try this form of exercise before you move on, almost surely you have a gym close to you home and you can always ask to work out a couple of time to see if its something that you could try. Keeping it relatively safe start from the basics and move on as you progress, in a short time you will understand and feel the difference.

Minerals Vitamins and the Digestive System

It is through the digestive system the body is able to make use of the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are consumed. The digestive system breaks down the material until it is in a form that can of use on the cellular level. There are several vitamins and minerals that directly affect the quality and efficiency of the process of digestion. Making sure to achieve the standard recommended daily intake levels of these nutrients will help to ensure that your body is able to make the best use of the foods consumed.

The digestive process begins in the mouth, with the saliva and the teeth. Healthy teeth are essential to proper chewing, which breaks the food down so that it can pass through the esophagus, but also puts it into a form in which the enzymes can start their work. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, Vitamin D and Vitamin C are essential to the health of the teeth, as their very structure depends on these vitamins and minerals. Calcium and phosphorus are the primary building blocks of the teeth, with Vitamin D serving to enhance calcium absorption by the body and magnesium and Vitamin C being necessary to the processes by which those substances come together to form the structure of the teeth.

As with all of the important body functions and systems, the powerful vitamins that form the Vitamin B complex have a significant role in the digestive system. Thiamin, or Vitamin B1, serves to help the body have a good appetite, and also keeps the nerves in good working order. Nerves, the communicators of the body, are important to the process of digestion, as much of it is the result of involuntary movements that are regulated in part by the nervous system. Niacin, or B3, is necessary for the health of the digestive tract, serving, in addition to the general health and functioning of the digestive tract, to keep its surfaces healthy. Niacin also helps to keep the tongue in good health, able to perform its role in the digestive process efficiently. Vitamin B9, also called by the names folate, folic acid and folacin, is also important to the maintenance of the gastrointestinal tract. The bacteria in the digestive tract help to produce Vitamin K, essential to the blood?s ability to clot.

There are many minerals that serve as cofactors to the enzymes that break down food, meaning that without those minerals the enzymes would be incomplete and digestion poor. Manganese is just one of the minerals that serves this purpose, not only serving as a cofactor in the enzyme processes that break down food, but also in those that allow the body to utilize it. Chromium is a mineral that helps to regulate appetite, important for food intake.

There are many digestive disruptions that can be traced back to poor nutrition. Meeting the standard recommended daily intake levels of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that your body needs is a good way to avoid inefficient and incomplete digestion. Nutritional supplements can offer a safe and effective means of meeting your dietary needs and health goals.

Acne and Skin Problem Myths Debunked

Isn't skin a wonderful thing to have?

An obvious benefit of skin is that it protects our bodies' internal organs from harmful elements like dirt, insects, bites, toxic chemicals, nasty weather, and the like, and it certainly is more attractive than what's underneath.

When skin is healthy it's nice to look at, but when it's diseased, it can not only affect you physically, but more painfully can cause stress and social problems.

Like the common cold, acne and similar skin diseases can be treated and covered up, but cannot really be cured. The best treatment is prevention and knowledge about what makes your skin happy, so that you can avoid skin care enemies and breakout triggers.

The real cause of acne can vary from individual to individual, but some factors can be stated with relative certainty:

1. Acne occurs when pores or hair follicles become blocked or clogged.

2. There are basically 4 types of acne manifestations: whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and nodules.

3. Acne can appear pretty much anywhere on the skin, though it causes the most concern when it shows up on the face. The worst forms of acne break out, however, on the chest and back, and most commonly on males rather than females because of hormonal differences.

4. There are many common myths and untruths about acne, rosacea, and other skin care problems.

Some acne myths include you'll outgrow it, so leave it alone, being out in the sun helps acne, acne problems are directly or indirectly proportionate to sexual activity, acne visits dirty people, acne is contagious, and too many more to list in this short article.

The sad thing is that belief in the myths can be devasting, in that proper treatment is avoided, and lifestyle changes that don't need to be made can take away pleasure unnecessarily.

For example, at one point in my life, I truly believed that I was allergic to chocolate and that it caused my breakouts. Whenever I would succumb to the temptation and have just a little I would stress out waiting for the red spots, and sure enough they would appear.

After several years and much experimentation, I learned I had no allergy, the stress was a trigger for me, and a new over the counter face scrub has kept me in the clear ever since.

Knowing what triggers your breakouts can be the difference between constant battles and healthy skin. The Internet is a wonderful place to get the information you need, so stop stressing out and learn what it takes to put your best face forward.

Dennis Becker has developed a free e-Course titled Ultimate Acne Prevention and Treatment Guide which debunks the myths and shows you how to look great consistently. The e-Course, along with other skin care articles can be accessed at:

Robotic Future of Hospitals Pandemic Prevention and BioTerrorist Attack

There is a huge concern in the medical industry that if a biological weapon were released that those sick might come to the hospitals in such large numbers that before you realized an attack had occurred everyone in every nearby hospital would also be infected. Then of course the hospital itself would be rendered useless and all those already in the hospital no matter what the reason would literally condemned. The biggest issue with this is that those places we have available to help our populations stay well would be immediately and totally useless. For some background on the World Think Tank discussion and on-going subject of bio-terrorism control and isolation, please see this page:

http://worldthinktank.net/wttbbs/index.php?showtopic=153

One of our Think Tank Members considering this and having worked in the medical field almost three decades and understanding the very fast moving technologies and innovation in robotics had contemplated the use of robotics in the event of a bio-terrorist act. Today modern hospitals have all kinds of robotic type technologies and are very leading edge with their devices. These state of the art devices make hospital robotics even more possible. Swift in Montana writes in this solution during our online discussion of robotic advances:

?One of the best places for them to work would be in hospitals that have infectious disease floors where communicable diseases are treated. They would be able to administer medications, check on the vitals of the patients, IV flow rates etc. without anyone risking their own health. Should there be a flu pandemic this would really help to keep the numbers down as would having robots to keep the area sterilized and as germ free as possible. Sensors could be built into them to determine when there was a certain level of particulates in the air for those with contagious lung issues and a robot could move around and clean the viruses from the air.?

When further discussion of tele-robotics came up as one of the incredible advances of robotics in medicine and what that technology has meant for NASA applications in repairs of Hubble Telescope, Satellites, ISS or pre-flighting the Shuttle for safe return it was determined that such technology could also be used in hospitals for outbreaks when operations and surgery were to be done. Since no person would risk infection, while we learned what the problem was and how to cope with it. For instance a bio-situation or bio-terrorist attack in the middle east somewhere could be diagnosed, isolated and prevented from spreading while our CDC here and other scientists around the world tuned into the procedure, thus using the brains of many to solve the now isolated bio threat from afar. Swift from Montana further discusses other possible issues with bio-terrorism, namely that if the bio-terrorist see that their attack is not working they might seek to do further acts of International Terror and has these comments to offer:

?Perhaps the issue of doing surgery in another country would not mean that the physician would actually have to travel there. He could operate the controls, while a staff from that country assisted in the procedure thus eliminating the possibility of being kidnapped or tortured for humanitarian efforts. Maybe the residents of the country would look at what they were doing if the only entities that would come anywhere near them were machines. If a machine was captured, it could blow everyone up and eliminate several problems at one time. Robots would certain be effective in teaching people many skills that they might not have the opportunity to learn. The most successful programs in Third World Countries have always been those that teach the citizens how to do something that will take care of their own??the teach a person to fish principle?. The most basic surgeries could easily be handled in sterile, relatively primitive situations. Medications to control infection and pain would be all that was needed afterwards. Lasers could be built in so that scalpels would not always need to be used. Thus keltoid scars that often don't heal well on darker skins could be minimized.?

Computer modeling shows that if you can quickly diagnose and then isolate a situation such as an outbreak in those first crucial hours, then what could have turned into a pandemic turns into a controllable and conquerable problem.

99% Fat Free Are You a Victim of this Marketing Campaign?

Ever noticed the number of products of the shelves that are 99% fat free. Food companies have used the fear of fat to promote their products & have created a society who fear eating fat. Is it working? Are we becoming a healthy & slimmer society by consuming these products?

The problem is that people often equate dietary fat to body fat & they are two different things altogether. To understand why the reduced fat food has not had the results people are looking for, you need to understand a bit more about food & the nutrition our bodies require. The body is very complex & needs fat, protein & carbohydrate to maintain health.

Eating fat does not necessarily lead to storing fat, the body will convert any excess food it cannot utilise for energy into stored fat, regardless of which food group it comes from.

Fat is a concentrated energy source that is vital for our heath & wellbeing. Each of the cells in our body is either sealed by or made up of fat. Fat is required to help the body absorb vitamins & to maintain a healthy body. The main groups of fatty acids are monounsaturated, polyunsaturated & saturated.

?Monounsaturated fat helps improve HDL Cholesterol (good cholesterol) & is found in Nuts, avocados, canola & olive oil.

?Polyunsaturated fats help lower LDL Cholesterol (Bad cholesterol) and can be found in sunflower, corn & soybean oil & fatty fish such as tuna. Omega-3 & Omega-6 are groups of fatty acids important for health found mainly in polyunsaturated fats.

?Saturated fats come from animal fats, coconut & palm oil & fast foods. When these fats are eaten to excess, the liver makes LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) which, when out of balance with HDL cholesterol, can lead to heart & blood vessel problems.

Protein is the basic building block for our bodies & is required for all cells including hair, nails, muscles, organs & bones. Protein is found in red meat, eggs, fish, legumes (includes beans, soybeans & lentils), cheese & nuts. The body is in a constant state of regeneration & protein plays a critical role as it replenishes the body, providing new cells. Without adequate protein the body is forced to break down existing cells from our bodies & supply protein where it is required most. People have been encouraged to reduce fat by giving up meat, eggs & dairy, sacrificing the protein that commonly coexists with fat.

Carbohydrates perform one function for our bodies & that is to provide energy. They are mainly found in grain, fruits, milk vegetables & confectionery. While they come in various forms the body recognises all carbohydrates as sugar that provides fuel for our bodies.

Most people have been encouraged to reduce fat in their diet & look for the reduced fat products on the shelves at the supermarket. The problem is that when the fat in the product is reduced it needs to be replaced by something else. This can be sugar or some other additive, and sugar is a carbohydrate that can be stored as fat if not used up as energy.

So should we try to eliminate fat from our diet? We all need fat in our diet for our bodies to function & maintain health. Next time you reach for a 99% fat free product take a moment to look at the label, Look at all the ingredients, including the total calories & the carbohydrate levels, then you can make a fully informed decision before purchasing the item, rather than assuming it must be healthy as it?s 99% fat free.

Medical Billing Doctors

Medical billing doctors play a significant role in medical billing business. Many medical professionals run medical insurance billing services as a side business.

Medical billing doctor's is a profession that combines the job of a doctor and a medical insurance billing professional. Even though, healthcare industry is well established in America, most healthcare providers, especially doctors, have no idea about how to make quick money. Furthermore, health maintenance organization (HMO) and many other insurance companies have reduced remuneration rates to healthcare professionals, and as a result, many doctors have to search for new revenue sources such as medical billing and seeing patients in large volume. They consider medical billing as a convenient means to get paid more. Medical billing doctors offer you services such as claims management, patient billing, receivables management, electronic processing, payroll management services, and receivables management.

As medical insurance billing professionals, doctors also carry some responsibilities. They have to check and send the patient's claim form out to the medical insurance company, and make sure that all the information is correct.

Medical billing doctors need to be well informed on various medical insurance plans, which help them treat their patients according to the best insurance plan. As a medical billing agent, a doctor has to play a more active role in office administration. Doctor's electronic billing services and many online medical billing services assist them in easy processing of patient claims. Lots of medical billing software packages assists doctors in creating patient statements, reprint overdue claims and statistical practice management reports, and electronic billing claims within seconds.

How to Spot a Natural and Alternative Medical Quack

Why are so many alternative health sites more alternative than health? I don't know either, but typing natural health or alternative medicine into a search engine will show you just how many natural health sites there are these days. And the topics range from do-it-yourself therapies like aromatherapy to highly invasive procedures like colonics. So how do you know which sites are giving solid medical advice and which are preying on the fears of people overwhelmed by this huge topic? Here are some tips to help you sort the nonsense from the facts:

Not All Alternative Health Organizations Are Legitimate

For every natural health expert who works hard to legitimize his or her area of expertise there are dozens of charlatans just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting (and often desperate) people. If the verbiage on a web site or in a brochure feels more like a hard-sell than an attempt to educate clients it probably is. Natural health is a multi-billion dollar industry in the US and quackery is, unfortunately, more common than factual information.

Natural Medicine Is About Empowerment--Not Fear

For some reason natural health practitioners are among the worst offenders when it comes to instilling feelings of fear, anger and disenfranchisement into their clients. When I see claims like the government wants to suppress this or the medical community doesn't want you to read this I have to wonder why practitioners are moved to such desperate measures just to sell a bottle of herbs. Legitimate practitioners work to educate clients--not polarize and frighten them.

Legitimate Practitioners Don't Have To Exaggerate

Phrases like miraculous breakthrough or works for a variety of ailments may get your attention but they should also ring your mental warning bells. And be especially skeptical if you see something like absolutely no side effects. If a treatment is powerful enough to cause such a profound change in your body it's going to have at least some potential for side effects.

Legitimate Practitioners Cite Their Sources

No one practices in an intellectual vacuum. All legitimate practitioners--even those in natural health--use and read peer-reviewed literature. Look for specific references like in the June issue of instead of a study showed in articles and web copy. The more detail provided, the better.

No Therapy Is A Cure-All

Legitimate practitioners will offer you a variety of options; they won't try to limit you to their own favorite therapy. I suspect that every practitioner (natural or mainstream) is at least a little bit biased but a good one will work to design a full-spectrum program.

Most Important

Natural practitioners are often accused of trying to turn people away from mainstream medicine (and some do) but no legitimate practitioner believes that prescription drugs are evil. Overused, sometimes, but never evil. Legitimate practitioners will encourage their clients to minimize their dependencies on drugs by making changes in their lifestyles but they also know that medications are sometimes a necessary part of life.

Your Guide To Exercise

Even light exercise is good for you, so don't get discouraged!

The most important thing to remember about exercise is that you should pick something you enjoy doing first, and then worry about whether or not it's the best exercise for you later.

The biggest mistake that most people make when they start an exercise routine is the choice of exercise. Most people start out excited, and they pick a really hard exercise routine to start out. They also tend to pick the type of exercise that is recommended to them, instead of one that they enjoy.

The upshot of this approach is that people lose momentum, begin to hate their exercise routine and eventually quit altogether.

It is impossible to overstress how important it is to avoid doing this. An exercise routine you enjoy doing and completing is invaluable starting out. A little exercise can make a difference in your health and fitness, countless studies have shown that people who only get one hour walking a week have better health than those who get no exercise at all.

Once you get into the swing of your routine you will probaly want to step up its intensity somewhat, but ensure you don't fall into the old trap of stepping it up too much. Say you enjoy riding a bike and you cycle a short distance every second evening, once you become used to this you will find you are able to cycle further, quicker and for longer. At that point the best plan is to stretch your routine to encompass your greater abilites, retaining a challenge when you go cycling.

If you feel you are well settled into an exercise program, then to advance you should begin to expand it. If, for example, you walk a certain distance three times a week, aim to walk it four or even five times a week, or maybe increase the distance you walk so as to maintain the challenge.

Try to vary your exercise also, this will help avoid boredom. If you become bored doing your exercise then you will begin to get sick of it. So liven it up by doing different exercises.

An exercise routine which trains all of your body is obviously a good one, so maybe you should look into getting a membership in a local gym or perhaps buying a body workout machine for your home. By getting a total body workout your whole body will feel, and look, better.

Don't allow yourself to get discouraged; you won't always be in the mood to exercise. If you don't feel like exercising, then just take that day off. There is no harm in missing a day's exercise here and there, in fact it can help you prevent become burned out. Just try to ensure the day off doesn't become a permanent break.

Even if you end up not exercising for so long that you get out of your routine, that is no reason to give up. Just start exercising again - no matter how much or how little exercise you do, it will always benefit you. Whether you're looking to continue or change your current exercise routine, or you're just starting to exercise again, good luck!

They Say "Look in the Mirror Don't See Fat See Beautiful!" That's Not Going to Make You Healthy!

My husband was 241 lbs. and had a triple bypass six years ago. Today he weighs 178 lbs. and his cholesterol is 108. I never lied to him about his food; I just neglected to mention that I did things like replacing the ground beef in his chili with veggie protein crumbles (from the frozen food case) and the shredded cheddar was veggie cheese from the supermarket produce department. Believe it or not the shredded veggie cheddar tastes and melts so much better than the regular no-fat cheddar. He loves it! I finally had to tell him why he was losing so much weight. He was beginning to think there was something terribly wrong with him.

I bought a cook book with lots of creamy comfort foods that he always craved. None had the heavy cream, butter and cheese that comfort food usually has. I learned how to substitute fat-free half & half or evaporated skim milk for cream. I used margarine with no trans-fat and after a while, I didn?t need a special cookbook. It was easy to convert any recipe to low fat, low calorie, low anything.

Here?s a good example of a recipe conversion: Original recipe was made with veal not chicken. I used healthy olive oil and margarine, reduced both to 1 ? teaspoons. The half-and-half was replaced with the fat free kind.

Chicken in a Creamy Mustard Sauce:

2 chicken breasts (boned & skinned)
1 ? tablespoon flour
? teaspoon each salt & pepper
1 ? teaspoons each olive oil & margarine
? cup each diced onion & sliced mushrooms
? cup fat-free half-and-half or evaporated skim milk
1 tablespoon each Dijon & fresh parsley
1 ? teaspoons lemon juice

Dredge chicken in flour, salt, & pepper. In a non-stick skillet heat oil over medium heat, add chicken and cook, turning once, until browned on both sides and cooked throughout (about 2 minutes per side). Remove chicken. In same skillet heat margarine until bubbly; add onions & mushrooms. Saut? until lightly browned. Reduce heat, add half-and-half, mustard, parsley and lemon. Stir constantly until sauce comes to a boil and thickens. Serve over the chicken.

Learn this method of good eating; forget the fad diets and the pills. Stop killing your husband and the kids with what you think is kindness cooking. Serve more vegetables and salad. Get healthy and then look in the mirror and be proud of your accomplishment!

The Power of Beauty

Have you ever wondered why women are so concerned about how they look? Why they aim to look like the beautiful women they see on the television and in magazines? That?s because beauty is power!

Even way back into ancient times women were concerned about their looks. Think of Cleopatra or Nefertiti who were beautiful women of their times.

The cosmetic industy is well aware of this and that women will go to great lengths to look beautiful. That?s why the cosmetic industry is a multi billion dollar industry.

When you think of beauty you think of what you see on the outside. But beauty is more than skin deep. And beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder! What one may find beautiful another may not. Even though there is no such thing as a definition for universal beauty all women know how to use their beauty to their advantage.

Men fall for this manipulation constantly. In fact they seldom know they?ve been snared into the web with a woman?s beauty. Of course the know when exterior beauty is mesmerizing them but it?s the internal beauty that they have not idea is working. That pouty mouth, those sparkling eyes, that gentle laugh. The power play of the boardroom and the bedroom share many similarities.

It?s a proven fact men are unable to release themselves from the beauty of women. A quick look, a wink, a big inviting smile, a relaxed posture are all indications that a man has succumbed to beauty. Studies have shown even the smartest men go stupid when entranced by the beauty of a woman.

Remember Sophia Loren, Jane Collins, or Jaqueline Bisset. Think about Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Madona, Marilyn Monroe. There beauty had an instant effect on the male population. Not only their exterior beauty but the deeper inner beauty of confidence and mystique that surrounded them.

These women were all show stoppers without even trying. In fact when asked they felt their features were flawed, but men didn?t see it that way. And yet each of these women were totally different in looks and personality. But each brought a certain group of men to their feet. Each had the ability to take the smartest man and turn him into a walking talking zombie stuttering, and staring.

Remember a beautiful woman is more than the exterior shell. Beauty is the whole woman. Personality, charm charisma, seductive sexuality, a smile, or a stance. There are many elements to a womens beauty than capture a mans attention and lock him into a world of bliss.

There is no cure for the poor male population, no pill to pop, no treatment to make them free of the power of a beautiful women. There are no magic bullets to stop the bite of beauty from turning the male population into a drooling idiot or a walking talking zombie. And until there is women will continue to use their beauty as a weapon on the opposite sex. Sorry guys!

Confessions From A Fat Doctor

I never intended to get fat! I am not exactly sure how it happened, but there I was a 6?2? thirty-four year old pushing close to 270 pounds. My cholesterol was high, my triclecrides were high, and my blood pressure was high. I was on a direct course for developing diabetes, increased risk of heart disease, increased risk of cancer, and a ton of other diseases related to obesity.

It gets worse. I am a doctor, a sports chiropractor to be exact and my office is located inside a health club. Unfortunately, like many other doctors and other health professional out there, I was not practicing what I was preaching.

Living in sunny Arizona, land of the endless summer, sooner or later you have to go to the lake, the water park, or you are invited to a cookout and pool party. That is when all my excuses caught up to me. Despite knowing the health risks associated with being overweight, it was the feeling of low self-esteem and embarrassment that finally drove me to action.

So there I was, a doctor, ready to get the weight off. I hate to admit it; I tried some of those quick fix gimmick supplements. I tried a bunch of the fad diets. I bought a bunch of books from all the ?weight loss experts?. Sure I would lose a little weight, but I could never stick with the diet for any length of time. When I went off the diet I would gain the weight right back. Then tried working my butt off in the gym, running almost every day. That got real boring, and I found that running everyday is not the best thing to do when you weigh close to 270 pounds.

There I was again, still no direction, no focus, no drive, nothing to guide me. Frustrated about not getting any results and what to do, I thought I was just going to have to accept that I was overweight and deal with it. I gave it a real effort and it did not work.

During all of this, the chiropractor that I bought my office from mentioned that he was beginning a weight loss program at his office, which was based on his experience with triathlon training. That got my attention. I really wanted to give the program a try, but I lived too far from his office to come in on a regular basis. So I began researching the sport on the Internet.

The more I read about triathlons and triathlon training, the more sense it made to me as a way to help me lose weight. If you are going to do an event that involves swimming, cycling, and running you obviously are going to have to train that way. The idea about jumping into the pool for an exercise swim was not something I was looking forward to, and the last thing I wanted to do was to put on a swimsuit and workout. Then I remembered how painful my knees were from running around, and swimming would be easier on my joints.

I also began reading about using heart rate monitors and the affects of exercising at different heart rates. Many of the authors of the books on heart zone training were triathletes themselves, and they gave numerous examples on how using heart zone training you can track your progress and maximize your exercise program.

The more I searched the triathlon Internet sites, the more I became interested in the sport. The people who competed in triathlons looked really fit, it was inspiring. That is when I decided to take my commitment to losing weight to the next level. Weighing close to 270 pounds, I signed up for my first triathlon. Five months away, I was going to do a sprint race, which was a 500m swim, a 15-mile bike, then and a 3-mile run. This was a much shorter distance than many triathlon races, however at the time I could not do even one of the events let alone all of them back-to-back.

Using a combination of what I learned about heart zone training and from the triathlon Internet sites, I started my program. I my alternated exercise sessions between swimming, cycling, and running. I also did about an hour of weight training a week. This really added a variety to the exercise program, and it never got boring. One day I would just bike, then next maybe run 10 minutes, do a weight session, then bike for 25 minutes. Then the next day I would just swim. The next day I would swim then follow it up with a run. My knees were holding up very well with little, if any pain. At the same time I started eating better, no real diet, just common sense stuff, avoiding the sugars and white breads.

The use of the heart rate monitor became a very useful tool. It kept me from working too hard or too easy. The monitor I was using, the Polar 610, also came with software. I was able to download all of my exercise sessions into a computer. Then I was able to objectively document my exercise sessions. The software was able to track my calories burned during exercise, my average heart rate, hours spent exercising per week, and much more. After every exercise session actually looked forward to downloading my session to see how I did.

It also allowed me to exercise at different heart rates. One day I would run at 70% of my maximum heart rate for 10 minutes, then bike at 80% of my maximum heart rate for 10 minutes, then go back to running at 70% for another 10 minutes. The next day I would just bike for 40 min. But I would again exercise at different heart rates, 10 min at 70%, and 5 minutes at 80%, and 10 minutes at 75 %, and 5 minutes at 80%, and then 10 minutes at 70%. This was a fun way to exercise and I actually began to look forward to exercising, the whole process was less boring.

I kept up with this type of training for five months. On the day of my first triathlon, I was forty pounds lighter.

Some how, some way, I did it. I finished my first triathlon, and as crazy as it sounds I really enjoyed myself. I was feeling good about my accomplishment, but I still had some serious weight to lose. So I found another triathlon race six months later, signed up for it and continued training. The weight just kept coming off and coming off.

At the time of my second race, eleven months after learning about triathlons, I had lost sixty pounds.

It seemed like every week one of my patients, whom I had not seen for months, would come in for a treatment. The reactions were always the same, doc what the heck happened to you, you look like a totally different person!

I felt like a different person too, I was running without knee pain, I was happier at work, my relationship with my family was better, I was no longer embarrassed to go to a pool party or the water park, in fact I looked forward to them.

My patients and the members of the health club where my office was located were constantly asking me about my weight loss. I remember one of the gym members walking up to my desk and looking at my before and after pictures. He pointed to my fat picture and said, ?That is me? then he pointed to my fit picture and said, ?That is the way I want to look?. Wow, what a great feeling, I could not believe it.

As I am sitting here writing this article, it has been a year since my first triathlon. Just a few weeks ago, I raced in my third race and I actually managed to finish second in my age group.

As a result of getting into triathlons, not only do I have a new body, I have a new life.

Statins: A New Hope in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory arthritis occurring in people who suffer from recurrent bouts of joint pain, swelling and deformity. Apart from inflammation of the joints, there are abnormal changes in blood vessels in these people which puts them at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack prematurely and reduction in life-expectancy. Excess number of deaths due to cardiovascular cause were consistently observed in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

A drug that controls the inflammation and also prevents changes in blood vessels will be highly useful in these people. Statins (e.g. lovastatin, simvastatin) have shown lot of promise in this regard.

Statins inhibit an enzyme of the lipid metabolism called as HMG-CoA reductase; therefore they are called as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. Process of atherosclerosis i.e. clogging of blood vessels with cholesterol is accelerated in inflammatory arthritis. The levels of good (high density lipoprotein) cholesterol are abnormally low while those of bad (low density lipoprotein) cholesterol are higher in inflammatory arthritis. Statins reduce the low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and inhibit atherosclerosis. As atherosclerosis is the culprit for vascular events like heart attack and stroke, the risk of these diseases is also reduced.

Apart from lowering lipid levels, the statins were found to have anti-inflammatory action in recent studies. In inflammatory arthritis, statins may suppress the inflammatory response of the synovial membrane which lines the joint cavity. Statins act on blood cells like lymphocytes and macrophages which are responsible for inflammation and inhibit the release of harmful chemicals like cytokines from these cells. As inflammation is responsible for clinical features of inflammatory arthritis, statins markedly improve the clinical picture in these patients. Statins not only relieve pain and stiffness, but also retard the ongoing process of joint destruction.

Leung et al found that atorvastatin suppressed immune responses and cytokine release in mice. Abud-Mendoza C et al found that simvastatin showed marked improvement in signs and symptoms in patients with refractory rheumatoid arthritis which was unresponsive to methotrexate, a powerful drug. Similarly, atorvastatin was shown to be highly effective in rheumatoid arthritis in a recent randomized controlled trial.

Inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis is not confined to the joints only. Low-grade inflammation exists in blood vessels also. This along with malfunction of endothelial cells lining blood vessels may accelerate the atherosclerotic process leading to vascular events such as heart attack at younger age as compared with normal population. Statins suppress this inflammation and inhibit release of harmful free radicals. Statins also improve the function of endothelial cells. Statins also reduce the levels of C-reactive protein, an independent risk factor for heart disease. Thus statins act as protectors against vascular events and may reduce the morbidity due to these diseases.

Statins should be used in rheumatoid arthritis unresponsive to treatment with disease modifying anti-Rheumatic drug (DMARD) as adjuvant therapy. They can also be used in protection against vascular diseases. The existing statins are mainly developed to act as lipid modulating agents rather than anti-inflammatory drugs. Further research is required for developing new statins who have more potent anti-inflammatory action. Recently, a new statin, Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) has been found to have potent anti-inflammatory effects. Further trials are required to prove its efficacy and safety.

Thus statins will play increasingly important role in management of inflammatory arthritis due to their multiple benefits. They improve the quality of life by relieving the symptoms of arthritis and at the same time protect a person from premature death due to cardiovascular causes.

Immune: Means to Fortify Our Insulation Shield

Immune is our body?s natural insulation process. Immunity can be safeguarded; immunity can be destroyed, rather easily!

Immune is the basic condition most of us are born with. The mother?s milk taken by the baby for the initial 12 months provides the newborn with immunity. As the baby gains in age, this initial immunity safeguard stands the person in good stead. However, under abnormal conditions at the time of conceiving, the fetus may be deprived of the necessary nutrients. This may adversely affect the immunity system of the fetus as it attains the mature stage. The natural corollary of such a dysfunction is that the baby may be prone to many ailments. This state may even pose serious threats to the very life of the baby. Even if the baby is lucky enough to cross this crucial stage, different diseases will stalk the person as age advances. Thus, immunity is that condition when our body?s high profile and complex security system naturally shields our body from the attacks of different bacteria or germs. An immune person is healthy and happy.

Such is the state today that it is difficult to even get a pure natural item that has not been sprayed with artificial or chemical fertilizers. In this age of counterfeit food products and pollution of different kinds, one must constantly upgrade our immunity system. But, there is a way out: Go for grains, vegetables and fruits that have a guarantee of being grown with natural manures. Or if this can?t be done then have the items you are compelled to consume. But have them sans the guilt, the prick of conscience or the nagging feeling that you are taking below average food. Else, you may be psychologically affected which in turn will cause dents in your immunity wall. Besides, it is not easy and also not at all practical to always dwell in a pristine pollution free environment. Hence, it is always advisable to go for such a lifestyle that can at least guarantee a healthy living.

Now, immunity has a direct connection with our psychologies. A perennially sick person will obviously suffer from a subconscious mind that is battered, to say the least. This is despite the fact that this person may be getting the best of medical treatments and also constant filial affection. Moreover, there is also the economical aspect. The mounting medical bills can be nerve shattering as well. The cascading effect of such forces leaves a devastating bearing on the person concerned. Smile and laugh eludes such a person. All because of a weak immune system! Therefore, a healthy lifestyle is the only key to a fruitful living. Healthy lifestyle has broad connotations. It encompasses not just what we consume but also how we live. Experts opine that immunity can be strengthened through various strategies.

The first thing to remember is that our body is a machine and it needs to be oiled regularly. The ideal way to rejuvenate our immune network is by exercise. Just as an idle knife gets rusted so also our body gets tired by stress. The wear and tear our body encounters can seriously affect our immune structure. Regular and sound night sleep is a must. It is when we sleep at night that our body relaxes. During this time, the immune shield also gets strengthened. Another viable method is positive mind control. Be it yoga or any other alternative therapies, a person will be young so long as he thinks and acts as an young person. There are copious instances of strong-willed people taking control of their lives despite tremendous health disasters. These survivors act as health icons to their compatriots. Their real-life stories of waging successful battles against life?s threats are quite enervating. Avoid fast food and opt for simple homemade items. The latter is more hygienic and also acts as a good support to our immunity. The nutrients, vitamins and minerals are preserved in the homemade items.

The Most Important Things to Know When Choosing a Treadmill

If you ever had the desire to buy a treadmill, you were probably hit by all sorts of questions: What treadmill should I buy?, Where will I put it?, When will I have the time to use it?, ?What are the most important things to take into consideration when choosing a treadmill?? , Which treadmills will help me look fit? and so forth. This article will try to answer these questions and give you an insight of the most important factors that are to be taken into consideration when choosing a treadmill or jogging machine.

First thing you should do before choosing a treadmill is figure out how much free space you have inside your home, because treadmills come in different sizes and designs. Once you know approximately how much space you can free up, you can go look for a treadmill of that exact specific size. Don't put yourself in the unnecessary, awkward position where you come home with your newly purchased treadmill and are forced to put it in the closet because of the lack of room.

When choosing a treadmill, apart from size and design, another important factor you should take into consideration will be its quality. A quality treadmill can last for years, while poor quality ones can break apart in a matter of weeks or months. What gives quality and longevity to a treadmill is its motor. The ones with a larger, heavier motor will have a smaller chance of breaking down, because of their solid configuration, but of course there will still be a small risk that it could brake down.

Still they are a great choice to make if you have the money and room for them. Also look for quality and time-tested brands and don't let yourself attracted by the really small prices low-quality treadmills offer. You could pay half the price of a good, quality treadmill but you could end up with it breaking down in a matter of weeks.

Because when you decided to buy a treadmill you probably thought about your health first, it's very important that the treadmill provides a healthy and effective way to work out. One of the most important factors in this matter is the thickness of the walking deck and the size of the walking track, both having a bad effect on your feet and ankles if they don't respect a set of healthy measures.

Therefore if you plan to do both walking and jogging on your treadmill, its walking deck's thickness needs to be at least 3 inches in order to provide a healthy solution. The walking track should be around 48 inches in length and 17-18 inches in width to provide the necessary space for you to work out in a comfortable position.

The next step you need to figure out when choosing a treadmill is what you want it to show you on its electronic board. The electronic board differs from treadmill to treadmill, although some of the basic parameters almost all of them offer are speed, distance, calorie burnout and maybe inclination degree.

Some of the newer treadmill models have an interesting extra feature that measures your heart rate and shows it on their monitor. A really important factor you should take into consideration when choosing a treadmill if you have heart problems.

The benefits of choosing a treadmill for home workout instead of going to a gym are immense. First off, it will save the precious time it takes you to go and come back from the local gym, not to mention you save the money it would take you to pay for the gym training session or monthly fee.

The second main advantage is that by having a treadmill in your home, all members of your family will have the chance to work out (which of course can turn into a disadvantage when everyone wants to work out at the same time, but that's highly improbable if you make a precise time-schedule).

Herbal Weight Loss Supplements

More and more people are finding themselves overweight. Most of these people wish they could find some way to lose their extra weight. To fill the growing demand, many health food stores now carry a wide range of herbal weight loss supplements.

The most well known weight loss supplements are stimulants such as ephedra, St. John's Wort, guarana and senna. These herbal weight loss supplements speed up the body?s metabolism so that it burns more calories. However, most of these supplements are effective for short-term use only.

Ephedra?s negative side effects

Ephedra has gained recent notoriety for its negative side effects. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against its use and banned some drugs that have it.

Ephedra used to be one of the most popular herbal weight loss supplements. Ephedra is a key ingredient in ephedrine, an amphetamine-like stimulant. Ephedra is known by allergy sufferers as the premier decongestant in the form of pseudoephedrine.

Ephedra?s value among the herbal weight loss supplements is that it can both suppress appetite and speed up metabolism. In the process of taking it, ephedra can cause high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, insomnia, tremors, seizures, heart attack and stroke. The FDA has logged more than 1,000 chronic reactions and 38 deaths associated with the use of ephedra in the last five years.

Doctor consultation highly recommended

This has led the FDA to recommend that consumers consult with a physician before taking any herbal weight loss supplements. This is particularly true if you are considering an herbal weight loss supplement containing ephedra.

It is not surprising then to note that herbal weight loss supplements are not generally recommended among those in the medical community. Like ephedra, other herbal weight loss supplements that qualify as stimulants also draw a wary eye from the medical community because of many recorded side effects. Once again, the bottom line is to consult with your doctor before beginning any herbal weight loss supplements.

How to Manage Your Mood with Food

Here's a meal-by-meal guide to eating for energy and managing your mood with food.

Breakfast

Eating a good breakfast boosts your concentration and revs your energy, particularly in the morning when you may need it most. Without breakfast, you're more likely to make that second pot of coffee by mid-morning.

Instead, keep your blood sugar on an even keel with complex carbohydrates. Avoid refined carbohydrates, such as white bread and white sugar. These have a high glycemic index, which can cause spikes and dips in your blood sugar levels.

The right complex carbohydrates provide your brain and muscles with the steady flow of the energy they need. Grains are great sources of B vitamins, which aid in the metabolic production of energy. The best carb choices for breakfast are natural whole-grain breads and cereals.

For the best breakfast, add a low-fat protein, such as yogurt, cottage cheese, or skim milk, and watch your fat intake as well as your meat consumption (meat takes more energy to digest).

Mid-morning snack

Turns out, snacking may not be such a bad idea. Eating every few hours helps your body use nutrients more efficiently. It stimulates your metabolism, keeps your blood sugar levels steady, reduces stress on your digestive system, and decreases hunger, which means you'll be less likely to overeat when mealtime finally rolls around.

If you're craving carbs, which many of us do at this time of day, choose whole-grain bread, cereal, or fruit.

Fruits and vegetables deliver a low-fat, high-fiber alternative to the vending machine choices. Raw carrots and sugar snap peas, for example, provide a crisp, satisfying crunch and won't zap your energy. Challenge yourself to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

For maximum energy throughout the day, avoid foods that are laden with simple sugars, such as cookies, pastries, candy bars, and sodas, which can bring on erratic blood sugar levels.

Instead, try some lean protein (low-fat yogurt, cottage cheese or lean meat) to help tide you over until lunch.

Lunch

At midday, go light. Because a hefty helping of carbohydrates can increase the amount of seratonin in the brain and cause that sleepy feeling, focus on low-fat protein.

Protein can actually raise energy levels by increasing brain chemicals called catecholamines. Eat a lunch of low-fat cheese, fish, lean meat, poultry, or tofu.

Mid-afternoon snack

Choose something that will keep you satisfied until dinner. A little bit of fat is fine. It gives those carbohydrates and proteins some staying power. My favorite? All-natural peanut butter and a few crackers.

Before your work-out

Carbohydrates are fastest to digest and pack quick energy. Add protein for staying power, but stay away from fats. They can make you cramp.

Dinner

The agenda for the evening can dictate what you'll eat for dinner. Need to stay on overdrive for back-to-school night? Choose low-fat proteins. If you're in relax mode, indulge a little.

Whatever's on the menu, remember the Pie Test. Envision your plate as a pie. Seventy-five percent of the pie should be filled with fruits, vegetables, and grains and 25 percent with other foods, such as diary products and meat.

Before bed

Before turning in, a carbohydrate-rich snack can supply seratonin to help you fall asleep. But go easy. Too much food can reduce the quality of your sleep.

Eating for energy is one of the most effective, powerful, and fast-acting mood-boosters. Try it today and see!

Chin Surgery Cosmetic Surgery Information

The chin is one of the most noticed features of an individual?s face because other elements of the face such as the nose, and jaw are lined up with it. Chin surgery (or mentoplasty) procedures are designed to sculpt your chin into a more desired and attractive looking form.

The best candidates for mentoplasty are those who are in good physical and mental health, who have not been diagnosed with any diseases including bone disorders. Patients should not have an unrealistic expectation when going in for chin surgery. The procedure can make the chin more or less prominent, depending on the needs and overall look of the patient?s facial appearance.

Mentoplasty changes the chin?s shape by moving some of the bone forward, adding implants or in some cases, completely removing the bone altogether. Each procedure has different details and is dependent on what the patient?s needs are. A chin with a bone moved forward can help give the chin a stronger appearance. This is the same with adding an implant. The implants usually take around an hour and a half, but will ultimately have dramatic effects on one?s overall look. Removing part of the chin bone reduces a jutting jaw and can give a patient a more welcoming look. It is best to explain to your doctor what your needs are so an appropriate plan of action can be taken.

Recovering from the surgery is a simple process. The area around the chin will be sore and tender for a few days, and will probably turn black and blue. An important part of the healing process is to maintain proper dental hygiene, especially if an incision was made through the mouth to reduce scarring. After a few days, the support tape and bandages will be removed.

Opinions on Hoodia Vary

Opinions on hoodia vary from amazing African weight loss wonder to junk science. I have seen and read both extremes and everything in between. Opinions on hoodia gordonii weight loss products vary as well. There are a few things that most people, manufacturers and interested South African organizations agree on. The best hoodia diet aids contain genuine hoodia gordonii. They have CITES documents, which are required for exporting hoodia gordonii from South Africa. They have chemical analysis reports which support their claims and verify the hoodia gordonii is in fact present in the supplement. One might think that this is unnecessary, but reports of fake products, supported by random testing, indicates that it is necessary, if one is interested in a supplement that works.

It is important to realize that even the best hoodia diet aids are nothing more than appetite suppressants. They will not magically melt the fat away. Opinions on hoodia effectiveness as an appetite suppressant, for the most part, indicate that it can suppress feelings of hunger, but not psychological urges to eat. Some people say that they do not even think about food, but they are generally busy people, who, without a hunger pang, do not realize that it is time to eat. Less busy people may not be as satisfied with results.

Opinions on hoodia dosages also vary. There is no standard dosage. Not among dieters and not among manufacturers. The best hoodia diet aids contain 750mg of hoodia gordonii powder or more. Some say they need 1500mg per day. Some say they need more. There are not as many customer reviews related to products which contain concentrates. Professional opinions on hoodia concentrates vary as well. Some say that concentrates provide a more potent source of the product. Others say that the powders are more natural and that chemical analysis will indicate the presence of any impurities. The best hoodia diet aids do not use batches that contain impurities.

The most important opinions on hoodia use as an appetite suppressant are those of your doctor. The best hoodia diet aids recommend that individuals consult their doctor before they begin any weight loss program, whether they intend to use an appetite suppressant or not. Professional opinions on hoodia may vary, but opinions on the importance of a doctor?s supervision do not.
